Amazing Selling Machine (ASM9) Review: Will it Work For Me?

My biggest success online so far has been the Amazon FBA business that I created with my partner.

We started selling a line of fitness related products on Amazon in the beginning of 2016.

With some hard work (and luck), we managed to hit the $1 million revenue mark by the end of that year.

In 2017 we grossed over $5 million and with half a year gone in 2018, we’re on track to hit $9 million in revenue.

tl;dr Summary
The Amazing Selling Machine v9 is the best training course and community I’ve seen for learning how to create a successful Amazon FBA business.
Visit the website

It’s not just us who are having success with Amazon FBA. There are many, many sellers who are making a killing selling physical products on Amazon.

But conversely, there’s just as many who fail as well.

There are a LOT of steps just to get your product listed on Amazon. And even more steps after that to sell enough to become profitable.

If you search around, you will find that there’s some decent content out there on how to start an Amazon FBA business.

But for many of you, it’s a big hassle to sift through all the good info and the bad. You just want to follow proven, working techniques that you know others are currently having success with.

And that’s where the Amazing Selling Machine (version 9) comes in.

This is the most comprehensive Amazon FBA training I’ve seen, and in this Amazing Selling Machine review I will give you a breakdown of what’s in the course, and whether you should invest your hard earned money into it.

What is the Amazing Selling Machine?

The Amazing Selling Machine (ASM8) is a course created by Jason Katzenback and Matt Clark, and taught by two instructors, Mike McClary and Rich Henderson.

The course has been regularly updated over the years and has evolved along with Amazon. I first heard about ASM5 way back in 2015, while ASM9 launched in April of 2018.

What’s exciting is that ASM 9 feature brand new content, that reflects the latest changes on Amazon.  All the video lessons were re-recorded from ASM8.

Here’s what’s new in ASM 9:

  • New product selection criteria. There’s now a new and improved strategy for picking the best possible product to sell on Amazon.
  • Improved Amazon approval guidance.  Amazon has recently made it tougher for people to get approved to sell on Amazon.  The new Amazing Selling Machine will teach you how to get yourself approved.
  • New ASM Dashboard with visual milestone tracking.
  • Improved and updated Private Resource Vault.  Loved to hear this since this was one of the things I didn’t like about ASM 8.
  • Deeper dive into Amazon Brand Registry.
  • Update Amazon marketing tools training.
  • Updated Launch, Blitz, and Rank system.  This is the ASM system for launching products on Amazon and it has been completely improved to what’s working now on Amazon.

ASM 9 currently features 2 Amazing Selling Machine Bonuses that are quite exciting if you sign up by the end of July.

    • ASM Expert Product Opportunity Evalation

Once you’ve narrowed down yourself to 3 choices of products to sell on Amazon, you can have one of the ASM Mentors to look at your choices and tell you which one they would go with and sell. Deciding which product to sell on Amazon will be one of the biggest choices you have to make, so having this sort of guidance is invaluable.

  • Private ASM Expert Product Listing Evaluation.  One of the ASM experts will personally review and evaluate your product listing once you have it live.  Having a great product listing is so key to being successful on Amazon and this is a really great bonus that all ASM members will get to take advantage of.
  • Private 1-1 Coaching. Another great ASM bonus is the opportunity to get 2, 30 minute 1-1 coaching calls with an ASM mentor. On these calls, you can ask them to evaluate your product packaging, your product listing, sponsored ads strategy, or whatever burning questions you might have.

Amazing Selling Machine 9 Dashboard
The current course consists of 8 different modules. Each module is broken down into easy to digest lessons (132 in all) and there are over 10 hours of content to go through. There’s also a weekly coaching call at the end of each module, although at this time the recording are already out.

Each of the video lessons are typically a mix of powerpoint presentation and screen sharing live demos.

You also get access to the very active ASM community forum that’s inside the site and an external Facebook group as well. In the forum, you can get help from both regular ASM members and the ASM mentors, who are volunteer members who have done over $1 million in Amazon FBA sales.

The course starts from the very beginning, so even if you don’t know the first thing about selling on Amazon, you will eventually learn everything you need to create a successful Amazon FBA brand from the course.

My personal journey with the Amazing Selling Machine

To be clear, my Amazon FBA business was already quite successful before I ever signed up for the Amazing Selling Machine course. I remember hearing about it in the early days, but it was closed at the time. Plus the high sticker price turned me off at the time.

But I finally ended up signing up for ASM8 during the October 2017 launch.

By then our business was making enough money that the price of the course seemed like a reasonable investment. If I could just learn a few new strategies or tactics that could take our business to the next level, then the course would be worth it.

I’ve been through all the materials now, and I’m super impressed by the content. I especially found the sections on optimizing our Amazon listings and Sponsored ads to be really helpful in our business.

We spent over $50k in sponsored ads in 2017 and the improvements I’ve been able to make to the way we handle our ads, and improving the conversion rate of our listing has made a huge difference in ROI.

But I think the greatest value of ASM9 is getting to be part of the community. It’s so incredibly helpful to be a member of a forum that’s made up of people just starting out along with other successful sellers. Being able to get feedback, help, and tips in near whenever you need it is so invaluable.

Also hearing the stories of other successful sellers is incredibly motivating. And it gives new sellers the confidence that they can and will eventually succeed.

Supplementary Lessons

There are 9 different videos in the Supplementary Lessons area.  They consist of interviews with some successful ASM members, a couple other miscellaneous videos and a final coaching call video.

Private Resource Vault

The private resource vault is where you can download PDF’s related to each video lesson of the course.  After you’ve watched a particular lesson, it’s helpful to download the associated PDF and keep it as a reference as you try to implement what you learned.

Besides the PDFs, you’ll also find other relevant downloads that may have been mentioned in a particular lesson, like the various templates that they talk about.

The vault also contains Resource Links to the best services and tools, the ASM team has found useful in their businesses.   There are some good tools in here, but I wasn’t too impressed by this area because it seems like some of the companies mentioned here are only listed because they are offering a special deal for members.

ASM Pricing

ASM9 will cost you a $3997 one time fee. Although there is also a payment plan option which is 5 payments of $999 each.

There are no ASM discounts or coupon codes available as far as I can tell.  But they do have special members-only deals for some of the services you need like JungleScout and ManageByStats.

Keep in mind that if you lock your price in now, you’ll also get access to every new version of ASM when it comes out. The price of each version of the Amazing Selling Machine typically increases every launch as they add more value to the course, so if you’re interested you should get in soon.

ASM9 also contains some of the best guarantees I’ve seen in an online course.

First, you get a full 30-day guarantee. That’s more than enough time to go through the first couple of modules, select a product and try to source it from a supplier. If you don’t feel like you can make it work, then no problem. Just request your money back.

ASM9 also features a 6-month Buy-Back Promise. What this means is that you can try and implement the teachings of the course for a full 6 months. If you don’t want to continue, then the ASM will buy your Amazon business from you for the cost of the course plus up to $10,000 worth of inventory.

So really, as long as you’re willing to put in the time and the work, the course is risk-free.

Will the ASM work for me?

That depends. The Amazing Selling Machine is definitely not for everyone.

First of all, it requires someone who is willing to take action. You need to dedicate the time to watch all the videos (a couple hours a week), and then do the steps outlined in each one.

Each module in the course is designed to be completed and acted upon before moving on to the next one.

If you’re not ready to invest a chunk of money in the next couple months to purchase samples and buy inventory, then I would definitely hold off buying the course.

It’s very important to make sure you’re ready to get started before jumping in.

To make the most out of the course, I can’t stress the importance of becoming part of the community and ask questions!

Selling on Amazon will bring its own set of challenges. You will definitely hit some roadblocks along the way.  And asking for (and getting) help is the best way to mitigate this.

The mentors and members of the community are great, and you’ll build some solid relationships along the way. This is the key reason why the Amazing Selling Machine has been such a popular course for a long time.

Finally, a big sticking point for some people will be the price. Yes, $3997 is a lot of money. And if that’s beyond your budget, then don’t get the course. You’ll need additional money just to get started and if you don’t have that, then you probably won’t succeed anyway.

But otherwise, think of the cost as an investment in yourself and your business. If the course leads you to create your own successful Amazon FBA business then this money is just a drop in the bucket.

Amazing Selling Machine Alternatives

ASM 9 is certainly not the only Amazon FBA training course on the market. There’s a bunch of others out there, although I haven’t actually had a chance to take a look at them at this time.

There are also some other great resources for learning Amazon FBA, that you can use as an alternative or supplement to your  ASM experience.

I have two podcasts that I really like. The first is Scott Voelker’s The Amazing Seller podcast. The podcast is dedicated to Amazon FBA and Scott is continually putting out new episodes.  He also runs the Amazing Seller Facebook group which is a very active community.

I also like Manny Coates’ AM/PM podcast.  Manny is the owner of the Helium10 and he puts out a lot of tips and strategies in his podcasts.

I recommend subscribing to both of them if you are really interested in learning more about Amazon FBA.

Final Thoughts

Creating a successful Amazon FBA business can definitely make you life-changing money.  And what’s great is that anybody can do it.  All it takes is some drive, hustle and a little bit of startup money.  The challenge is knowing what to do, as there’s a lot of steps you need to take care of along the way.

That’s where the Amazing Selling Machine comes in.  It holds your hand step-by-step, from beginning to success.  And it provides you the motivation and guidance you need to become successful.

If you’re looking to join the lucrative world of Amazon FBA, then give the Amazing Selling Machine a shot.  I don’t think you’ll regret it.

Keep in mind that ASM9 will be closing its doors on June 10, 2018. So if you want to get in before it closes its doors, you should check it out now.

Thank you for this detail review of ASM. I currently have a Shopify store that is not doing well and I have spent so much resources and money on FB ads.

  • joana says:

how is this different with ASM8?

    • Chris Fong says:

Hi Joana. Basically, the difference between ASM8 and ASM9 is that all the videos were re-recorded to reflect the latest changes on Amazon. They’ve also done some cosmetic UX changes to the member area as well, and they’ve included some updated bonuses and the 6-month buyback guarantee. Hope that helps if you were considering joining.

  • Donald says:

This was a really detailed article. Thanks a lot for all the information. I stumbled across this article and ASM9 a little too late to register. Will they come out with another revised version of ASM 10 in the future? Thanks.

    • Chris Fong says:

Hey Donald. Appreciate you stopping by. I have no particular insights into their release plan, but based on their past history I’m assuming ASM9 will re-open again sometime in the future. And I’m sure there will be an ASM10 too.

  • Alan says:

Do you think you can follow ASM 9 and start a business with $1k?

    • Chris Fong says:

      Hi Alan,

I would say so. I’ve seen people who have had success starting their Amazon FBA business with even less than $1k. A $1k budget is certainly enough to get some samples and some limited quantity of units of your product created and shipped. Where ASM9 is really going to help you out is giving you all the steps you need to follow in an easy to digest way.

  • Junefrey says:

First of all thanks for the thoughtful and thorough review about ASM. So as an aspiring/starting entrepreneur, I am not going to ask for the length of the return of investment rather I’ll ask how much will it cost me in implementing the action steps in every module?

Does ASM has a backend product like you need to purchase before you continue in the next module or you need to buy in order to get things right?

    How about advertising for ranking?

So to sum it up. How much do I need more to invest besides $3,997? If there is can you list it down for us readers

    ASM – $3997
    First Product order – $?
    JungleScout & ManageByStats – $?
    Inventory/Storage fee – $?
    Referral & Closing fee – $?
    Advertising – $?

Thanks in advance and much be appreciated.

    • Chris Fong says:

      Hi Junefrey,

Great questions! So once you get access to ASM, there’s no additional upsells or anything to utilize the course.

In terms the other Amazon FBA costs itself, it really depends on what type of product you end up selling. So its hard to give an estimate for that. For us, we were able to get started on a $1k budget. Advertising costs really depend on your budget and what you’re willing to spend.

Jungle Scout and ManageByStats are not required, and optional to succeed. But as an ASM member, you do get a 45 day free trial to Jungle Scout. I think they have a trial for ManageByStats too but I don’t remember what it is off the top of my head.
