In terms of affordability, 99Designs lies somewhat in the middle. It’s much more affordable then going with a pricey in house designer. But some of their competitors do offer lower prices.
Pricing depends on which contest design you pick. Logo designs for example start as low as $299, while a whole website redesign contest starts at $599.
For me, 99designs sits at that sweet spot between quality and price. It’s not so cheap that it attracts the bottom feeder type designers, yet it’s not so expensive that I feel like I can’t afford it.
